Can Jobs4teens find jobs for teenagers?

Can Jobs4teens find jobs for teenagers?

Jobs4teens can find jobs for teenagers. We have already found jobs for teenagers throughout the United Kingdom, and we are keen to find more.

We launched our own jobs board in 2023 and it has already begun to be successful.

In 2024 we plan to do our very best to attract as many different opportunities to promote on the jobs board.

We believe that full time education until you are 25 is not always the best option. Although there is definitely a requirement for a high percentage of young people to stay in full time education until they graduate and join the UK workforce, we believe that this route is not for everyone.

There is undoubtedly a pressure on teenagers to plan their route past GCSEs into further, and then higher education, with a view to obtaining a good degree and as a graduate securing a good job with a good salary in their chosen career sector. We do not believe that every young person should feel pressured into taking this route, and we are more than aware that many young people feel that they have failed in some way if they do not complete this journey they are encouraged to take.

Full time jobs for 16 year olds are not an option unless there is an education programme in place to go with it. Typically this will be an apprenticeship scheme that will offer a recognised qualification at the end.

Apprenticeships are school leaver programmes specifically designed for career-ready people aged 16 and above. These schemes combine real work with academic study. As an apprentice, you'll receive substantial on-the-job training and work towards nationally certified qualifications.

Jobs4teens is really keen to add as many of these opportunities to www.jobsforteenagers.co.uk

Part time jobs for 15 year olds are also something that we are keen to add.

We now have over 36,000 registered candidates signed up through our website.

A large percentage of those registered are 15 year olds looking for part-time-work, a summer-job, or a similar opportunity where they can earn money of their own whilst they are still at school.

Jobs4teens will only promote jobs where the employer can prove that they will comply with the law that governs youth employment.

We can offer employers an opportunity to find good young talent. Candidates that have registered with us have already taken that first step to finding a job that suits them. We now need to supply them with as many varied opportunities as we can.

How can we address the UK Skills Gap?

How can we address the UK Skills Gap?

We recognise that there has been a UK Skills Gap for quite some time. Channelling young people into higher and further education does not address that gap.

Apprenticeships and traineeships are better ways to create skilled workers, necessary to keep the UK economy growing and at the forefront of innovation.

The following was written earlier this year by Hannah Wilson. She focussed on five ways in which employers can address the issue:

THE JOBS MARKET HAS BECOME INCREASINGLY EMPLOYEE-DRIVEN, WITH STAFF LEAVING THEIR CURRENT ROLES FOR BETTER OPPORTUNITIES AND ADDITIONAL BENEFITS SUCH AS FLEXIBLE WORKING.

Wage stagnation, cost of living, job dissatisfaction and hybrid working have been contributing factors that have led to thousands of people voluntarily leaving their jobs — dubbed ‘The Great Resignation’.

This, combined with rapidly changing technologies like artificial intelligence and automation, has led to employers struggling to hire skilled workers. Some claim that people are leaving education without the necessary skills to enter the current workforce.

In a recent study half of the employers who expect skills gaps in the years ahead said skill building would be the most effective action for their organisations, whereas 31% cite hiring as the most effective.

So what can employers and HR professionals do to address the skills gap?

1.      Hire through apprenticeships

Apprenticeships have long been a consideration for many employers seeking cheaper hiring alternatives. They’re offered at several levels to educate on the skills and knowledge needed for a specific role.

Apprenticeships are conducted with an external training provider so employees will receive bespoke support throughout, with access to a tutor’s time in one-to-one meetings and practical sessions. Apprenticeships also allow businesses to mould staff into the perfect fit for their roles.

Ultimately, apprenticeships have proven to be a solution to filling the skills gap. Amazon has announced the creation of 1,500 apprenticeships in the UK in 2022, including in publishing, retailing and environment, social and corporate governance and many others.

As a company, you could also work with providers to offer current employees the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship. This would help them gain the relevant skills, so you always have talented people to hire from within the company.

2.      Employ internally

One of the options many HR professionals are exploring to fill skills gaps is employing internally. This is one of the most immediate steps employers can make that will also help improve employee satisfaction.

According to LinkedIn’s Global Talent Trends report, firms that offer internal mobility opportunities are 41% more likely to retain employees than those that don’t.

Businesses will be able to reduce the costs associated with hiring a new staff member, which could be upwards of £50,000, while also retaining the talent they already have.

Allowing employees to grow within a business is a great way to reduce the costs of hiring externally and means higher job satisfaction and, therefore, higher retention rates.

3.      Upskill and reskill employees

Along with employing internally, upskilling current employees is an excellent way for employers to fill any skills gaps they’ve identified within their organisation.

Currently, non-managerial staff are least likely to be offered digital skills or reskilling, which would help them progress in their careers. Employers can benefit from a constantly improving workforce as new skills are needed by providing these opportunities.

In the long term, upskilling and reskilling are the best ways for employers to future-proof their businesses.

4.      Effectively onboard new hires

Giving new employees a strong foundation is the first thing any employer or HR professional should do.

Effective onboarding provides the new hire with all of the necessary information like employee goals and objectives, their role and responsibilities, as well as a clear career development plan with room for training and upskilling.

Turnover rates can be as high as 20% in the first 45 days of employment, so conducting an orientation process that builds strong relationships between managers and employees is essential to preventing high turnover.

Engagement is at its highest point in an employee’s first few days, so HR professionals and managers must spend this time well for the best outcome for the employee and the business.

5.      Develop a culture of training

Developing a culture of training within a business is essential to move the company forward. In a similar vein of upskilling and reskilling, employees must continuously learn to stay relevant in the workplace. One way companies can encourage this is by developing a culture of training.

For this to make an impact, the vision for this training must come from the top. Leaders and HR managers who promote consistent training are more likely to reap the benefits of an improved workforce.

A learning environment will help improve employee confidence, employees with a strong learning culture are 37% more productive.

Companies can also create development programmes and mentorships to allow employees to shadow and learn from those with more experience. Mentorships can run within businesses at no extra cost and benefit both the mentee and the mentor.

Businesses worldwide are employing several tactics to address the skills gap in the current UK workforce caused by the Great Resignation. From apprenticeships to upskilling existing employees, there are plenty of ways to make an impact, both long and short-term.”

Find out more about The Training Hub.

Find out more about The Training Hub.

Jobs4teens is proud to be working alongside The Training Hub, supplying candidates that meet their requirements.

The Training Hub was founded by Neil Degg, read his story to learn how by giving young people the right opportunities early can benefit many:

“Neil Degg knows what the future can look like for someone from a deprived background and/or lacking in a good education. Raised in a part of Manchester with high unemployment and low educational outcomes, he was already getting into trouble by the age of six. Coupled with an emotionally absent father and a mother doing her best to keep the family together, life was always going to be a challenge.

By the age of 15, Neil was living in a homeless unit. Alienated from the kind of support network a person needs to make healthy choices, his life continued on a downward spiral. Reflecting on those times, he says, “I wasn’t thinking about how my behaviour was impacting other people. I was just trying to survive in the only way I knew how.”

Things only began to change for Neil when, at 28, he was given the opportunity to work in social care:

“I instantly resonated with that environment. I understood the challenges that young people in care faced - and those of adults who lacked an education, or were from a marginalised background. I could see why they often failed and I knew I could use my own experiences to make a positive contribution to the lives of others. It made me realise, had I received the right encouragement, education and opportunity, I could have contributed positively to society a lot sooner"

Neil launched The Training Hub in 2014 - followed by The Big Initiative in 2017.

Proudly featured in Forbes and showcased on the BBC for the outcomes achieved with children, young people and adults, The Training Hub provides training resources across multiple sectors - supporting an individual's career alongside free preventative, life skill, parental and mental health resources for all age groups.

The Training Hub believes that engagement is pivotal for an individual to be inspired to invest time in themselves. Everyone's experience of life, regardless of age, determines their ability to see the value in something. Unfortunately, life can sometimes make the possible seem impossible - but we must never stop trying to unlock each individual's potential.

Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.”

Could an apprenticeship be right for you?

Could an apprenticeship be right for you?

Definition: An apprenticeship is a system of training a new generation of practitioners of a trade or profession with on-the-job training and often some accompanying study (classroom work and reading). Apprenticeships can also enable practitioners to gain a license to practice in a regulated profession.

Definition:traineeship is an education and training programme which incorporates work experience, preparing young people for their future careers by helping them to become 'work ready'. ... Employers are not required to pay trainees for the work placement and traineeships are exempt from the Minimum Wage.

Differences: The difference between a traineeship and an apprenticeship is that a traineeship can be either a full-time or part-time employment based training arrangement, usually for around 12 months (apprenticeships usually last for three to four years) and is generally in a non-trade related area

The following information is found on the Government website:

Apprenticeships are an exciting option -  you get hands-on training and also the chance to put your skills into practice.

Apprenticeships are available at multiple levels. From school leavers, people upskilling in their careers and complete career changes. There are hundreds to choose from and some include a qualification, like a degree.

What you'll earn

What you earn will depend on the industry, location and type of apprenticeship you choose.

If you're aged 16 to 18 or in the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the apprentice rate.

If you're 19 or over and have completed the first year of your apprenticeship, you’re entitled to the National Minimum Wage.

This is the minimum you’ll earn - many employers pay a lot more and offer their apprentices a competitive salary.

What it costs

Apprenticeships are funded from contributions made by the government and your employer. This means you will not have any student loans or tuition fees.

You'll just need to cover the cost of your day-to-day expenses, such as lunch and travel.

If you're 16 to 24 and a care leaver, you'll receive a £1,000 bursary payment to support you in the first year of your apprenticeship.

Are you a Parent helping your Teenager to find work?

Are you a Parent helping your Teenager to find work?

Are you a Parent helping your Teenager to find work? Then we can help you with the process.

We are more than aware that not all young people aged 16 and over want to continue learning and go on to higher and further education. For them a traineeship, an apprenticeship, or a job might be the best option. However, the majority of the information out there is geared heavily towards teenagers continuing in education for as long as possible.

We wish that more employers would consider introducing apprenticeship schemes. There is still some Government assistance for those firms willing to offer places. Our own data and research shows that there are thousands of teenagers aged 16-17 who would prefer to work as an apprentice, if the places were out there.

If your teenager is under 16 then they will only be able to seek out part-time work, but the skills and experience they gain from doing a part time job will prepare them for any future opportunities, as well as giving them some money of their own to spend.

Older teenagers and school leavers are generally more focused on their options and whether or not further education is right for them. An 18 year old with real work experience on their CV will stand out to employers as being work-ready.

We encourage all parents to visit the Parents & Guardians section of our website and pick up some useful tips and advice.
