Sweet
Success for Scottish Teenager
A schoolboy who was told he was too young to get an after-school
job has now set up his own business selling sweets.
Alfie Mutch, 12, is desperate to be rich and have enough cash to
splash on whatever he wants.
He found it impossible to find work after lessons so took
matters into his own hands and began selling customised cones of treats
door-to-door.
When that took off he moved online and his business “Alfie's
Confectionery” is a smash hit.
But the schoolboy has to deal with unique problems that are not
an issue for other entrepreneurs, including his little sister Layla, eating his stock.
His mum Jade said: “Alfie said to me ‘how can I get a
job’?
“It’s not like when I was young and you could do loads of things
like babysitting or dog walking to make extra cash.
“You’ve got to be about 16 to do most jobs. He knows that
sweeties sell so this was the perfect idea.”
“We’re really proud of him and it’s great that he’s realising
the value of money and hard work at a young age.”
Alfie, from Newmachar, Aberdeenshire, did a project at school
where he was given a fiver and had to make the money grow.
He opted for sweeties and discovered they’re a big seller so
went back to them when he launched his own business.
Mental health nurse Jade and offshore worker dad Jason are
stunned by his business acumen.
Jade said: “He just wants to make lots of money.”
“He’s really money-orientated and is obsessed with being rich
one day. I’ve no idea where it comes from.”
Alfie does most of the work himself, although he has to get his
mum to drive him to buy supplies.
“He’s always coming up with new ideas on how to make money and
even goes to car boot sales to sell stuff he no longer needs.”
But it’s all so he can splash the cash, and loves buying things
like merchandise from his favourite TV series, Netflix hit Stranger Things.
